Idaho ENVIROTHON 2010
The Idaho Association of Soil Conservation Districts, sponsors of the statewide program, welcomes you to Idaho Envirothon 2010! This year's program will be held at The Living Water's Ranch in Challis, Idaho on May 3rd and 4th.
Envirothon is the ultimate natural resource education experience. Over the course of several months of preceding study, participants prepare themselves for competition in the areas of forestry, soils/land use, wildlife, aquatic ecology, and this year's (2010) current topic – "Protection of Groundwater through Urban, Agricultural and Environmental Planning".
Designed to foster cooperation and teamwork, five-member teams are tested on their basic knowledge in these topic areas and ability to apply that knowledge to solve real-life problems. Problem solving and teamwork are skills that will enhance the participants' ability to take leadership roles after high school or college, no matter what their chosen field or career. The 2010 Idaho Envirothon Advisor's Guide is available to view or print.
The Envirothon began in a single county of Pennsylvania in 1979. The program had such appeal that by 1988, it had expanded into three states and had taken on a national scope. The program has since grown to include more than 50 states and Canadian provinces and is North America's largest high school environmental competition. Idaho joined the Envirothon "family" in 1992.
The overall goal of the Envirothon is to promote natural resource education in a manner that succeeding generations will be environmentally literate, with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions regarding the environment.
The 2009 scores for the top 5 teams and other information can be found in the 2009 Envirothon Newsletter are now available for viewing.
